Motherhood

Eight Years

Eight years ago today, just six weeks after we received two sweet little boys into our home, they had their first play date with their baby sister. They had never spent the day together, as they had been in different foster homes in different cities. In the past, the two boys had occasion to spend time together and knew each other well enough to know they were brothers. But this baby sister was a whole new idea to them. By this time they were quite comfortable in our house, and they were very excited to meet this little girl.

I remember that day so well. We loaded the two younger ones into the stroller and walked several blocks to the park where we played on the equipment and the swings. I took turns pushing the two-year-old and the one-year-old. The boys were rambunctious as always, but this sweet little girl was as quiet as could be. I captured this picture on the couch during a lulll in their playtime.

It was only a matter of weeks until this little angel was also residing in our home. This quiet little baby has become one of the most outgoing little girls I have ever seen. She is loved by many. And those boys…they continue to grow and transform, and never cease to amaze me.

What a beautiful thing adoption is. What an awesome opportunity to share the love of Jesus. What an incredible way to live out our lives. I am forever grateful…to God for bringing them to us, and to them for loving us with all their hearts. Eight years have passed but we look forward to a lifetime of fun and laughter, cuddles and hugs, tickles and giggles, and growing up together.

Motherhood

Fulfilling His Plan

Last night our two youngest, both adopted, thanked us for adopting them. Sweet little Lizbeth says, “Thanks for saving us.” Jovanney adds, “Thanks for giving us a home.”

There were moments yesterday, when their rooms looked like an F5 had landed there, that my frustration with them was high. There are moments on many days that I feel inadequate for this job. But then there are moments like last night, when two sweet little souls speak their heart to you in a way that touches you all the way to the tips of your toes. And then you realize…I am adequate for this job. God chose me just for these specific children. God doesn’t make mistakes. He knows far better than I do what these kids need…what I need.

This is the case for all of us mamas, biological, step, adoptive. There are times we doubt our abilities. There are moments when our frustration gets the better of us. There are instances of fear. It is in these moments that we seek our Father for direction. It is at these times that we trust in the One whose plans are far greater than ours.

Thank you Lord for bringing these children to me. Thank you for trusting me with their hearts and their lives. May I, each day, live up to the challenge and blessed opportunity you have given me. Help me, Father, each day to fulfill Your plan.

I can do all things brought Christ Jesus, who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)

A Giving Spirit

This little guy has such a special heart! He won a bike at Boys & Girls Club last week. He was so excited to win because he wanted to give it to his brother, whose bike was broken. I explained to him that the bike was too small for his brother. So he keep it for himself. He rode it for 2 days until this past Saturday, when our church held our annual Giveaway. 6 bikes were raffled off to children in need. When the final bike was raffled, my sweet boy got his brand new bike and raffled it. He handed that bike over with a smile on his face, and I was so proud of him for his generous heart. He bagged produce, carried boxes, and help serve soup that morning as well. My prayer is that God continues to move in his heart, continues to help him consider others above himself, continues to give him a heart to serve, and continues to give him such a sweet, sweet spirit. I thank God each and every day for bringing this child into my home and my life! #adoptionrocks
